I have determined

That one of things I have allergies to is artificial cherry flavoring. It seems that a Diet Cherry Coke (or Pepsi) started this and I have eaten several other things flavored artificially with cherry. I ate something Saturday with the offending flavor and nearly immediately broke out in hives on my hands.

I enjoy cherry flavored things, too bad I will not be enjoying them as often.

One thing that was offered by my SIL LW, Red Dye #40, found in most Cherry flavored products and many other food/pharmaceuticals may be a more root cause. I will definitely investigate this and a couple of other things in greater depth.

I was thinking it might be the red dye. Wait for cherry season and try the real deal?

Has your doctor offered allergy tests?

Hmmmmm....
remember at the bottom of the stairs at Dad's house...
the bowl of red M&M's for the grandchildren....
you know the ones...
the red ones that Dad couldn't eat because he broke out in hives.....
the ones with Red Dye #40

Another co-ink-y-dink? Perhaps... but even more interesting!

It is interesting that your Dad had an allergy to the same thing.

BTW, we learned the hard way not to give N benedryl for his hives. Benedryl (unless it is the dye-free variety) has Red Dye #40. UGHH!

If this is what you have, be careful of other over-the-counter meds like cough syrup, antacids, pepto-bismal, etc.
